Video post: Too many books, never any time!

March 20, 2015 § 6 Comments

Thinking out loud about the impossibility of ever reading everything I want to!  Depressing, I know.

I hope to offer a more interesting video next Tuesday/Wednesday.

In the meanwhile, stay tuned for some fun links tomorrow and perhaps a new review on Monday!

Do you feel overwhelmed when you think about the number of books you want to read?  Or are you comfortable with the fact that you’ll never finish them all?  Or is your list of books you want to read short enough that you will probably finish it?

I recently discovered the Goodreads reading challenge widget, and promptly plugged in 30 books for the year.

I’m working on #6, I think. The widget says I’m behind, and I feel guilty. But my mum god I Capture the Castle so I may get back up to speed after The Princess Bride.

    • ARE YOU READING THE PRINCESS BRIDE?! That book is so much fun!! You’ll have to let me know what you think of it, when you’re done. And are you reading I Capture the Castle, too?
I have a love/hate relationship with that challenge thing.

For me, I just set it low. So there’s enough pressure to HELP me read more, but not enough for me to go “AAAAAAAAH.” I’ll also be reading I Capture the Castle, but it might have to be another checkout at the library since I’m not sure mum reads fast enough for me to nab it in the same checkout window.

The Princess Bride is delightfully sarcastic and snarky. Even more than the movie. I have to be careful where I read it, because I’ll be snickering and making faces.

  • I have this problem all the time! My tbr seems never-ending and I’m such a slow reader as well that sometimes it stresses me out that I won’t be able to read all the books I want to in my lifetime.

But then I tell myself off because reading is supposed to be fun not a list to tick off!

… And then a couple of months later the cycle begins all over again *sigh.*.

    • I know, I know – sometimes I think I’m crazy for thinking so much about what I should read, because reading should be fun. But the reading itself is still fun, even if thinking about my TBR list isn’t! And besides, then only reason I think so hard about this is that I know *what* I read is important, personally but especially professionally…
      I’m glad/sorry you understand! :3
